EXERCISE 2: LA COURNEUVE WORKSHOP
OUR VENDREDI, 2 MAI--
The interventions you propose for the 4000N are for a real context with real constraints and real decision makers. These proposals will be judged by the Mayor for their validity and for whether they can be realized. So, NOW you need to research how you would go about making your project a reality; enter into the process:
--who is in charge?--what groups would need to work together?--what decisions will have to be taken?--what role would the residents play?--how much would it cost?--who pays?--how would your project be maintained?--and who would pay for the maintenance?--is this a project desired by the community?--have there been other projects like your proposed?--what happened to these proposals?--what would make your project impossible?--what would make your project possible?
I want you to find out the names of the agencies/people involved in the process of making something happen in real life. Once you have the names, check with Monte to see if he can make an introduction. If not, go ahead and introduce yourself. (Monte’s email is montelaster@hotmail.com)
Often, there is more than one decision maker, and they may not always agree.
YOUR RESEARCH MUST GENERATE A STRATEGY: HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS?
FOR EXAMPLE:
Jonathan and Florian: you guys need to know who controls the buildings and how you would get the right to project images onto them? You also need to determine what sorts of images and what role these images play: who are the actors involved in this discussion?
The three projects for children: what is in place now? which programs are which and which are not?Who is in charge of the space you propose? Does you project have a real chance of being supported? In the case of a fountain, who would maintain and pay for the maintenance of the fountain/cost of water etc? What is desired by the community?
All of you will have to determine who owns/directs/administers the site/public space you are interested in AND how you will persuade these people to support your intervention.
YOU NEED TO CONSIDER WHAT YOU AS AN ARCHITECT BRING TO THIS DISCUSSION: HOW DO YOU USE YOUR SKILLS AND INSIGHTS TO PERSUADE THE COMMUNITY (BOTH HABITANTS AND FORMAL DECISION MAKERS) TO SEE THE IMPORTANCE/POTENTIAL OF YOUR PROPOSAL.
ONCE WE HAVE THIS INFORMATION, WE CAN BEGIN TO REFINE YOUR PROJECTS ACCORDINGLY.
I REALIZE THIS TAKES TIME, SO GET AS FAR AS YOU CAN AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN AND WE WILL GO FROM THERE.
